Summary

Cameco came to Forward Lighting looking to save money in their overall plant operational costs. We not only actualized those savings both in terms of energy and in maintenance costs, but we were also able to address several other issues.

Improved Working Environment

Better overall lighting levels, flicker-free lighting and improved qualitative lighting for more accurate colour rendering means a safer and more comfortable work environment for Cameco’s employees.

Instant-ON

Additionally, our lighting upgrade provided a solution to deal with momentary power outages that necessitated a 12-15 minute lamp cool down period before the existing Metal Halide lamps could relight. Since our Induction lamps are “instant-ON”, this delay is no longer an issue.

Environmental Issues

Cameco had environmental objectives in the reduction and elimination of mercury and other hazardous wastes from the existing lighting technology. Their new Induction lamps are free from harmful chemicals, and have an amazingly long life span, which greatly reduces the amount of waste that ends up in a landfill.

The Results

• Energy consumption was reduced by 57%
• Lighting levels more than doubled
• Lights became “instant-ON” & flicker-free
• Colour rendering improved from 30%
• Maintenance costs shrunk to $0 … for the next five years
• Liquid and gaseous mercury is eliminated
